Our Story

Our Founder, Farmer, Chef, & Keeper of Seeds

Jennifer Legnini’s reverence for land and food is deeply rooted in her past, extending even farther than the Pennsylvania farm where she was raised (the original Turtle Rock). Traditional methods and communal feasts have been legacies of her family for generations, practiced amongst the hilltop towns of her ancestral home in the Abruzzo region of Italy. As a trained chef and next-generation farmer, Jenn brings that dedication and passion to every phase of the seed-to-table career she has built for herself on this side of the pond. Our woman-owned farm/cannery/bakery pays tribute to her roots while acknowledging the rich biodiversity and agricultural community of midcoast Maine.

Our Beloved Farm

Turtle Rock is surrounded by ponds and soil rich from erstwhile days as a dairy farm, homestead, and organically managed orchard. Our all-woman crew stewards the land using holistic management practices, as we believe that crops grown in this manner are good for our bodies and good for the planet. The intentional selection of heirloom seeds maintains heritage and diversity while packing the best taste, texture, and nutritional density into each fruit/vegetable/herb/flower. We strive to be transparent in our philosophy and practices and to contribute to a food system that is nourishing, regenerative, and just. We acknowledge we are living and farming on Wabanaki land.

and Beyond

In addition to the farm we are a year-round preservation kitchen and from-scratch bakery. Through collaborative and simple techniques our team transforms peak-season produce into spreadable fruits, canned goods, sauces, pickles, and baked goods, sourcing whatever ingredients we don’t grow ourselves from this thriving community of food artisans. Turtle Rock recipes reflect our culinary heritage, robust local terroir, and a holistic approach to nutrition all year long. In addition to our award-winning products we offer CSAs and educational gardening & preserving kits for your own DIY pleasure. Empowering others to tend their own bit of earth, embrace self-reliance, and inundate their pantries with nourishment feeds our vim and vigor.

We look forward to sharing these harvests from the land we love with you.
